Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information langNote collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the langNote mobile app, website, and related services (the “Service”). We aim to collect only what we need to run the Service well.
1. Information you provide
- Account details — your email address, and, if you use Apple or Google sign-in, the basic profile information those providers share with us.
- Learning preferences — the language you’re studying, your level, and your interface language.
- Uploaded study material — the photos, audio recordings, PDFs, and text you upload so the Service can transcribe and organize them.
- Payment information — handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store your full card number.
2. Information collected automatically
We collect limited technical data needed to operate the Service, such as basic device and app information, and — if you enable reminders — a push notification token. We use this to keep the app working, secure, and reliable.
3. How we use your information
- to provide the Service — transcribing, analyzing, and organizing your study material;
- to manage your account, plan, and subscription;
- to send review reminders and important service messages;
- to keep the Service secure and to prevent abuse; and
- to comply with our legal obligations.
4. AI processing and service providers
langNote cannot build a lesson without sending your material to an AI provider, so we ask for your permission inside the app before anything is sent, and we tell you there exactly what leaves your device and who receives it. If you decline, nothing is sent and the features that depend on it stay switched off.
What is sent: the photos, PDFs and text you upload; the audio you record; the sentences you type during role-play; and the language and level settings needed to interpret them. We do not send your email address, your name, or your payment details to any AI provider.
Who receives it, and what for:
- Google (Gemini) — reads uploaded photos, PDFs and text to build your lesson, and transcribes audio when the primary transcription service is unavailable.
- Anthropic (Claude) — generates lesson content, grammar flags, quizzes, podcast scripts, and your side of role-play conversations.
- OpenAI — transcribes your recordings into text, and generates the spoken audio you hear.
- Microsoft (Azure Speech) — scores the pronunciation of a sentence you read aloud.
Each of these providers receives the material under an API agreement that commits them to confidentiality and security protections equivalent to those described in this policy, and that prohibits using the content to train their models. They act as our processors: they may use the material only to return the result we requested.
Other providers that support the service without performing AI processing: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Cloudflare (backend API and caching), Stripe and RevenueCat (subscription payments), Resend (review and account emails), and Expo (push notifications).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your uploaded content to train AI models.
5. Data retention
Uploaded originals are deleted as soon as the analysis finishes. The photo, PDF or recording you sent is removed from our storage once the lesson has been generated — what remains in your account is the lesson itself (the sentences, patterns, words, quiz and podcast script it produced) and your review schedule.
We keep your account information and generated lessons for as long as your account is active. When you delete content or your account, we delete the associated data from our systems within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet legal, security, or accounting requirements.
6. Storage and security
Your files are stored in private, per-user storage, and access links are short-lived. We use industry-standard measures, including row-level access controls and encryption in transit, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- update your preferences and language from the Profile screen;
- delete uploaded sessions from within the app;
- turn reminder notifications on or off; and
- request account deletion or exercise other rights by emailing support@langnote.app.
8. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our providers may process and store data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards to protect your information when it is transferred internationally.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
